Pori la Mbali — Ruaha & Katavi Ultimate Wilderness
Tanzania's third-largest park and, by visitor numbers, one of its least-discovered.
7 Days / 6 Nights | Fly-in Safari | The Deep West — Tanzania's Most Exclusive Circuit
Some trips are about seeing more. This one is about seeing what almost no one else does. After settling into the familiar comfort of Ruaha's game drives and baobab landscapes, you'll fly deep west to Katavi National Park — a place so rarely visited that its wildlife has never learned to be wary of vehicles. Only three permanent camps exist in the entire park, each holding a maximum of a dozen guests, so what you experience here is genuinely, structurally exclusive rather than a marketing claim. Days unfold along the Katuma River and the seasonal floodplains of Lake Katavi and Lake Chada, where the dry season concentrates hippos into shrinking pools and draws predators in to take advantage — among the most dramatic wildlife theatre anywhere in East Africa. A guided walking safari along the lake edge puts you at eye level with it all, tracking spoor and birdlife with an armed ranger at your side. This package is built for guests who've already done Tanzania's better-known circuits and are ready for something rarer.
Because Katavi's camps are so limited, this is the one Mufindi itinerary that should be booked well ahead of your travel dates — and for guests with time to spare, nearly everyone who makes it this far continues on to Mahale Mountains for chimpanzee trekking on Lake Tanganyika, an extension we're happy to build in on request.

SAFARI COMFORT TIERS
Every Mufindi safari is built around genuine comfort and a skilled guide — the difference between our three tiers comes down to where you stay and how close to the wild you want to be. Whether you're taking your first safari or your fifth, there's a tier here built for exactly the experience you're after.

What to Expect
Warm hospitality, private en-suite rooms, and full board throughout — everything you need for a genuinely great safari, without paying for extras you may not need. Our most popular tier, and a favorite with first-time safari travelers.
Smaller camps set closer to — or inside — the parks themselves, so you spend less time driving and more time in the wild. Enhanced activities, a higher guide-to-guest ratio, and a noticeably more personal feel.
Boutique camps run by the people who built them, with an exclusive-use vehicle for your party alone. This is safari at its most intimate — thoughtful design, elevated dining, and a pace set entirely by you.
