Not every great safari happens from a vehicle seat. This is Mufindi's most complete Southern Circuit journey, adding the Udzungwa Mountains — often called "the Galapagos of Africa" for the species found nowhere else on Earth — to the classic three-park loop. After an overland start through Mikumi's floodplain, you'll head into Udzungwa's rainforest for a guided hike to the Sanje Waterfalls, tracking endemic primates like the Sanje mangabey and Udzungwa red colobus through cool, green canopy — a striking contrast to the open plains you've just left. From there, the trip returns to classic safari rhythm: a scenic flight into Nyerere for Rufiji River boat safaris and a dawn walking safari, then on to Ruaha for big-cat game drives along the Great Ruaha River to close out the journey.

 

This is the only package in the Mufindi range built around hiking as well as wildlife viewing, and it rewards guests who want more texture in their trip than game drives alone can offer. A moderate fitness level is recommended for the full-day Sanje Falls trail, though a shorter half-day route is available for guests who'd rather protect their energy for Nyerere and Ruaha.
